In the midst of a seemingly ordinary day, Ruzanna Tovmasyan found herself grappling with divine discontent. What began as a yearning to learn and serve more deeply in her faith, led her to the School of Evangelism in Florida. It was there she encountered a world she had not anticipated—a world that would test her faith, integrity, and resilience. A prophetic dream beckoned her towards a particular minister in Los Angeles, and despite the uncertainties, she chose to follow what she believed was God’s calling.
Ruzanna moved to Los Angeles with nothing but faith in her pocket, only to find herself in a whirlwind of emotional, mental, and spiritual challenges. The admired minister she once looked up to was revealed to be manipulative and deceitful. This revelation, which came after an internal voice repeatedly told her she would expose this individual, left her feeling betrayed and disillusioned. Yet, it also solidified a crucial lesson: people, no matter their spiritual facade, represent themselves and not the divine truth of Jesus.
Her journey didn’t end in despair but rather evolved into a mission to heal and uplift others. Even amid the personal turmoil, Ruzanna’s roots in the Armenian community provided a grounding force. Growing up in a large family where the arts—dancing, singing, poetry—were integral, she found solace and purpose. These cultural and artistic expressions became the foundation upon which she built her ministry and, later, her career in entertainment.
Transitioning from an evangelist to a stand-up comedian was not a straightforward path, but Ruzanna embraced it with the same faith-driven tenacity. Her comedic journey began with a prayer for divine confirmation, which she received in a most unexpected way. Despite the initial anxiety, she discovered that comedy was not just a new career but a continuation of her ministry—using humor to connect with and heal others. Her first tour and subsequent comedy special for Drybar were testaments to her resilience and adaptability.
Ruzanna’s story is also deeply intertwined with the Armenian struggle. Her heritage, marked by a rich Christian history and the ongoing conflict in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), shapes her outlook and mission. The genocide and continued aggression by Azerbaijan have left deep scars, yet Ruzanna remains a beacon of hope and healing for her diaspora. Her focus on helping her community process trauma and find peace reflects her unwavering commitment to her roots and faith.
As she forges ahead, Ruzanna’s artistic endeavors continue to blossom. With plans for a comedy tour and a film in the works, she uses each platform to bring light into dark spaces, whether through humor or storytelling. Her ability to blend art with profound messages of faith and resilience makes her a unique voice in both the entertainment industry and the Christian community.
